Gov nominates Tassaduq Mufti as MLC, enters council on seat vacated by Vikramaditya

In exercise of powers Governor NN Vohra, exercising powers vested in him under sub-section (6) of Section 50 of the J&K Constitution, has nominated Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s brother Tassaduq Hussain Mufti as a Member of the state Legislative Council against the seat available in the Upper House.
Tassaduq is nominated on the seat vacated by Vikramaditya Singh, who had resigned as MLC in protest against the state government for not declaring a holiday on last Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary.
With his nomination as member of the Upper House, decks have been cleared for Tassaduq Mufti’s induction into the council of ministers. He is likely to be given the tourism portfolio.
Tassaduq, 45, had resigned as head of the Chief Minister’s grievance cell on December 15. He was also the PDP candidate for the Anantnag Lok Sabha by election, which was scheduled for April 12, but was deferred indefinitely over the security situation.
A cinematographer by profession, Tassaduq holds a Master’s degree in fine arts. He had joined politics after the death of his father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in January 2016.
