State Tourism Department takes part in ‘Discover India Travel Expo’ in Chennai

Ahead of the snow fest in north Kashmir’s Gulmarg ski resort, the Tourism Department has upped its promotional campaign and is particularly focusing on the markets in South India.
Even as the department participated in the ‘Discover India Travel Expo’ in Chennai today, the authorities also have several other plans to woo tourists from South India.
Deputy Director, Tourism, Kashmir, Peerzada Zahoor, who inaugurated the event in Chennai, said they promoted the state’s tourism products, including food, art and craft, besides its ‘bewitching beauty. He said the expo received a good response from tour operators and travel enthusiasts, who enquired about the J&K’s tourism products and holiday packages.
Tourism Director, Kashmir, Mahmood A Shah said the department would organise another Familiarisation (FAM) Tour for the travel agents from South Indian states to promote Kashmir among the travellers from that place.
He said the department had already organised road show in Dhaka last year, it plans to organise more road shows from that place, from where tourists have started to visit Kashmir.
“We are targeting the travellers from South India, Bangladesh and South East Asian countries, where we will also make our presence with road shows,” he said. Earlier, the department had held several promotional campaigns in other parts of the country.
Meanwhile, Tourism Secretary Sarmad Hafeez yesterday took a review meeting at Gulmarg to oversee the preparations for the winter months at the ski resort.
Hafeez stressed on organising more activities during winter in Gulmarg. He said cultural programmes should be organised during weekends and emphasised on the need of having coffee shops at several points in Gulmarg.
The snow fest will be held once Gulmarg gets covered in a blanket of snow in the coming winter months.
