Three soldiers have been injured after terrorists attacked a Border Security Force (BSF) camp in Srinagar in the early hours of Tuesday. Security forces have killed one terrorist and operations are still on against terrorists who are holed up inside the campus. Srinagar airport has been shut down as the camp that has been attacked is close by.

The attack on the camp, where BSF’s 182 Battalion is stationed, began around 4 am. Security has been ramped up around the campus.

The 53 Rashtriya Rifles, a specialised counter-terrorism unit, has been moved in, along with troops of the CRPF, BSF and other forces.

Intermittent firing is still going on as part of operations to neutralise the remaining terrorists, news agency ANI has reported. BSF officials have said the terrorists have been contained to the building in which they are holed up.

The area has a cluster of security installations, including the technical airport used by Armed Forces and VIPs, the Gogo Humhama Air Force Station, and facilities of the BSF and CRPF.

The nearby Kashmir Valley School has been ordered shut.

The movement of people in the vicinity was curtailed. Employees and passengers headed towards the airport were allowed to proceed only after 8:30 am.
