18 Passenger trains cancelled due to trouble in neighbouring state

As a precautionary measure ahead of the verdict on self-styled godman Baba Ram Rahim, the Railways this morning cancelled all 18 trains originating from Katra, Udhampur and Jammu Tawi.
The cancellation of trains gave a hard time to the passengers, who had to travel from Jammu to their respective destinations. Hundreds of passengers, including tourists, Army men and pilgrims, were stranded at the railway stations.
The Udhampur, Katra and Jammu Tawi railway stations are the only source stations for the Army personnel, Vaishno Devi pilgrims and tourists visiting the state.
As many as 36 trains operate from the three stations and cater to thousands of passengers daily.
“As a precautionary measure, we have cancelled all 18 trains originating from Jammu, Katra and Udhampur today. The trains, which reached Jammu by afternoon, were on time,” said Naveen Kumar, Divisional Traffic Manager (DTM), Railways, Jammu-Pathankot range.
Meanwhile, all bus and taxi operators have suspended their services to Punjab and Haryana in view of the violence in both states.
“We have opened four counters exclusively for ticket cancellation and the passengers are getting full refund of their tickets. The waiting rooms are packed and people are sitting on the platform,” the DTM said.
