Kashmir Unites to condemn attack, Mehbooba, Omar, Azad, Geelani, Mirwaiz others express grief

The attack in Anantnag in which six Amarnath pilgrims were killed on Monday evoked widespread condemnation from political and social circles across Kashmir.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed deep shock and anguish over the killing of Amarnath pilgrims.

“Yatris were esteemed guests of Kashmir and perpetrators of this crime have done a death blow to the ethos and culture of the state,” she said in a statement.
Strongly condemning the attack, the Chief Minister said “time has come for every right-thinking Kashmiri to rise against this macabre menace before it devours everybody around.”
“It is a gruesome attack not only on unsuspecting guests but a brazen attack on Kashmir and Kashmiriyat and all of us shall have to rise against this scourge of violence, sooner the better,” she said.

The Chief Minister directed the administration to provide all possible security to the pilgrims and ensure quality treatment of the injured.

ATTACK ON COMPOSITE CULTURE: JITENDRA
Union minister Jitendra Singh condemned the attack. “It is not just an attack on the pilgrims, but an attack on the composite culture of the nation. As far as the Government of India is concerned, we have a policy of zero tolerance against terror, whether it is local or from across the border,” he said.

WON’T SPARE PERPETRATORS: AMIT SHAH
Condemning the killings, BJP president Amit Shah said he had “no words” to express the deep pain that he felt at the incident.
“I have no words to express my deep pain on the killing of innocent pilgrims traveling to the holy shrine of Amarnath. It is a heinous act,” he said in a tweet.
“Cowards responsible for this barbaric act will not be spared. I have spoken to the BJP district president and MLC from Anantnag and asked our ‘karyakartas’ in Kashmir to help the pilgrims in need. I pray for the families of those who have lost their lives and wish speedy recovery to the injured,” he said in a series of tweets.

CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY: SONIA GANDHI

Congress president Sonia Gandhi termed the attack on Amarnath pilgrims as “a crime against humanity” and called for decisive action against its perpetrators.
“The government should order a thorough probe into any security lapses,” she said.
“The attack on the devotees of Lord Shiva is a crime against humanity. The entire nation is in shock,” she said in a statement.
The government should ensure the safety of the pilgrims, she said.
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said “India will never be intimidated by these terrorist cowards.”
“I share the pain & anguish of families who lost loved ones in the terror attack on innocent Amarnath Yatris today,” he tweeted.

RESISTANCE CAMP CONDEMNS
Kashmir’s joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik on Monday expressed deep sorrow and grief over the killing of Amarnath pilgrims in an attack in Anantnag and strongly condemned it.
“This incident goes against the very grain of Kashmiri ethos. The annual Amarnath Yarta has been going on peacefully for centuries and is part of our yearly rhythm and will remain so. Our heart goes out to the families of the bereaved and we express our heartfelt condolences to them,” the leadership said.
Chairman, Democratic Freedom Party, Shabir Ahmad Shah, condemned the killings. “The incident is a conspiracy to defame Kashmiris. I demand an impartial inquiry into the killings,” he said.
Chairman of Salvation Movement, Zafar Akbar Bhat, also condemned the killings. “We express our heartfelt solidarity with the bereaved families,” he said.

DARK PATCH IN KASHMIR HISTORY: NAEEM
J&K cabinet minister Naeem Akther called the Anantnag attack a dastardly act and expressed sympathies with the bereaved families.
He termed the attack a “dark patch in the history of Kashmir.”

ATTACK CAN’T BE CONDEMNED STRONGLY ENOUGH: OMAR
Former Chief Minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said the attack “cannot be condemned strongly enough.”
“Such an attack was expected in spite of recent successes against militants by security forces. The one thing we had all feared this year during the yatra. In spite of recent successes against militants and unprecedented force presence,” Omar tweeted.

KASHMIRIYAT DOESN’T PERMIT TO KILL PEOPLE ON PILGRIMAGE: AZAD
Senior Congress leader, Ghulam Nabi Azad, termed the attack as “unfortunate”, and said the militants “will have to pay through their nose.”
He also spoke to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. “Our culture Kashmiriyat does not permit to kill people on pilgrimage… People born in Kashmir, even militants, will not commit such a crime,” Azad said.
“The government of India and the state government have miserably failed to maintain law and order and control militancy in the state,” he added.

ATTACK BARBARIC: TARIGAMI
Senior CPI (M) leader M Y Tarigami termed the attack as “barbaric” and “a setback to ethos of Kashmir.”
“The attack is against the interest of people of Kashmir,: he said.

DASTARDLY ACT: BJP
Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman Khalid Jehangir condemned the attack and termed it a “dastardly act.”
“BJP condemns the attack and expresses solidarity with the bereaved families,” he said.

UNACCEPTABLE: MAMATA BANERJEE
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also condemned the attack. “Strongly condemn the attack on Amarnath yatris and the police. Terrorism unacceptable anywhere in the world,” she tweeted.

KASHMIRIS SHARE GRIEF: GRAND MUFTI
Kashmir’s Grand Mufti Bashir-ud-din condemned the killings. “Kashmiris share grief of the bereaved families and pray for courage to them to bear the loss of their loved ones,” he said.
