Militants strike army convoy in Lower Munda, 2 Jawans martyred, 4 Injured

Two jawans were martyred after heavily armed terrorists attacked an Army convoy in Qazigund area of Anantnag district on Saturday.
An Army official in Srinagar said terrorists armed with AK-rifles fired indiscriminately around 11:15 am on a vehicle, which was part of an Army convoy, near Lower Munda in Qazigund, which is about 70km south of Srinagar.
The Army officer said six soldiers were injured in the terrorist attack.
“The injured soldiers were evacuated to military hospital at Badamibagh, Srinagar, where two jawans succumbed to their injuries. Four others are undergoing treatment,” the official said.
After the terrorist attack, police, paramilitary and Army men launched a joint combing and search operation in the area to track down the attackers.
The Srinagar-Jammu national highway has been closed after the attack.
No terrorist group has claimed responsibility of the attack.
However, a senior police official said it can either be handiwork of the Lashkar-e-Taiba or Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists.
“Both Lashkar and Hizb militants are active in south Kashmir and terrorists of any of the two groups would have been involved in the attack,” he said, adding they have launched investigation to identify the attackers and track them.

Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Jammu highway was closed for traffic following a militant attack on an army convoy in Lower Munda area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday.
