Div Com Recommends Action Against Police Officers

The inquiry report into the mass thrashing of students by security forces in Pulwama Degree College earlier this month has accused police for the incident, recommended action against some police officials as well.
The report has exonerated the Principal of Government Degree College (GDC) Pulwama. On April 18, the state government had ordered attachment of the Principal and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir was asked to hold an inquiry into the incident.

A top official said the inquiry report was submitted to the government by Divisional Commissioner on Wednesday wherein action against some police officials has been recommended. The report confirmed that police and other security forces had trespassed in the college premises.
After the mass thrashing of students in the College, a video went viral on social media wherein Principal Abdul Hameed was seen pleading with the security forces to stop cane charging students and asking them not to use tear gas shells on them.
Officials said action as recommended in the inquiry report is likely to follow against some police officials.

“Police is likely to initiate action against some of its officials,” the official said.
Besides, the Higher Education Department is likely to reinstate the Principal. “The Principal will be posted back in Pulwama College.”
On April 17, campuses across Kashmir erupted in protest against the mass thrashing of students in Pulwama College, forcing the authorities to order closure of all educational institutions including Universities, Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools across Kashmir for one day. Later, government extended the closure for a week.
Even after 10 days, the anger among students refuses to die down. Student protests continue in various schools and colleges against the mass thrashing of students in Pulwama College.
Earlier, Minister for Education Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari had said action would be taken against anyone who trespasses in schools or colleges. “The students were not protesting on roads but were in college,” he had said.
