One civilian killed after forces open fire on protesters in Kupwara

A 57-year-old civilian identified as Mohammad Yousuf Bhat S/O Khazir Mohammad Bhat was shot dead by the forces at Pangzam area of Kupwara on Wednesday afternoon after clashes erupted between people and forces during an encounter in the area.

Police sources told Kashmir Post that: “A civilian was killed due to bullet injury near army camp which was attacked by militants in Kupwara in Kashmir.”

Earlier, locals had clashed with the forces demanding the bodies of the militants for burial which led to massive clashes between people of the area and forces.

Two militants, three Army troopers were killed while five other army troopers were critically injured in the encounter.

Meanwhile, amid ongoing clashes, a complete shutdown is being observed in Panzgam.

Huge contingents of police and paramilitary personnel have also been deployed in the area to contain the protests.
