After grenades, soldier caught with live cartridge at Srinagar Airport

A day after a soldier was arrested with two live grenades at Srinagar ‘International’ Airport, another Army man was caught by anti-hijacking team of J&K police with a live cartridge at the airport during luggage screening on Tuesday.
Police sources said a live cartridge of INSAS rifle was recovered from the arrested Army man during X-ray scanning at the airport. The accused was supposed to board a flight for Mumbai and was identified as Pandiya Raj of Army’s 319 Field hospital, Army Medical Corps (AMC), Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Talking to Kashmir Post, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) anti-hijacking (Srinagar airport), Manzoor Dalal said a soldier was caught with a live cartridge at the airport check-point. “A bullet of INSAS rifle was recovered from his pocket during screening. We seized the bullet and after questioning the soldier, it was found that he had carried it inadvertently,” the SSP claimed.
He said the soldier admitted to his “mistake” and also tendered an “apology” for causing inconvenience to the airport security. “The soldier wasn’t arrested. He was handed over to the concerned unit,” police sources said.
When contacted, Army’s Srinagar-based spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia, said: “We are ascertaining the details about the person.”
The incident comes a day after anti-hijacking team at the Srinagar airport caught a soldier of Army’s 17 JAK Rifles along with two live grenades, during luggage screening. The soldier, Bhupal Mukhiya of Darjeeling, was later handed over to police station Humhama. He was later released on bail and is facing a court of inquiry ordered by the Army.
