Farooq’s statements are politically motivated: Hashim Qureshi

‘Man who had made allegiance at hands of Maqbool Bhat turned out to be power-hunger’

Hashim Qureshi, Chairman JKDLP has expressed regret on the recent statements of National Conference and Farooq Abdullah. He invited the attention of the people of Kashmir to the fact that it was Sheikh Abdullah who had got Maqbool Bhat, the martyr, shifted to the Tihar jail in 1976 and it was his son Farooq Abdullah who had signed the death warrant of Maqbool Bhat in 1984. Had he declined to sign, Delhi government would not have ordered execution of Maqbool Bhat to seek the revenge of the assassination of Mhatre.
In a statement issued to KNS, Hashim Qureshi said that it was Farooq Abdullah, who, in concert with Congress party, rigged the Assembly elections in 1987 to oust United Front, which forced the youth of Kashmir to take up the gun. He asked whether National Conference will forget that imposition of draconian law called PSA was imposed by no other than National conference as result of which thousands of innocent people languished in different prisons. Some of them are still behind the bar. He added that ground work for STF was also done during the tenure of Farooq Abdullah which left no stone unturned for destroying Kashmiri youth. Youth were arrested, made to disappear and made victims of custodial deaths. This was also the gift of National Conference regime.
Hashim Qureshi said that NC had perhaps forgotten that it was responsible for the killing of 127 youth during 2010. Today, whosoever is arrested under PSA and other black laws, its responsibility lies with the NC only. He said that today on the eve of election for parliament seats and panchayats in Srinagar and Anantnag, Farooq Abdullah and NC are exuding their rhetoric of sympathy with the people of Kashmir. In 1974, Farooq Abdullah had made allegiance to martyr Maqbool Bhat for joining the freedom struggle in Kashmir. But after becoming the Chief Minister of J&K he got Maqbool Bhat executed.
Hashim Qureshi said that if Farooq Abdullah was sincere in his conviction for the freedom of Jammu and Kashmir, he should tender apology to the soul of martyr Maqbool Bhat and should also apologize to the followers of Maqbool Bhat. He should direct all elected members of NC to the Legislative Assembly to submit their resignation and apologize to the people and make a commitment that they will not participate in elections until Jammu and Kashmir is liberated.
In 2002 Mehbooba Mufti had termed the slain militants as martyrs only to seek votes from the people. Through this slogan she had success in accessing families and households and thus stabilized her feet in Kashmir politics. Today Dr. Farooq Abdullah is trying to tow the same line. This class of politicians forgets that Kashmiri masses are not dumb, deaf or blind. People are able to make difference between accession and independence. They have begun to understand the ways and methods of political turncoats. They have impressed upon the Kashmiri youth that Maqbool Bhat the martyr, wanted to present a united, independent and secular State of Jammu and Kashmir on the map of the world.
