Out of box solution for Kashmir Issue: Geelani

‘Options other than UN resolutions distrustful, leaders should desist from supporting other choices’

Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Geelani Sunday ruled out any out of box solution for Kashmir and asserted that UN resolutions form basics and guarantee the peaceful and amicable solution of issue as per aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Terming options other than UN resolutions as “distrustful”, Geelani asked separatist leaders to desist from supporting or pleading other choices as it is impossible and won’t help to contain political uncertainty in the region.
“It is not proper to mention other out of box options or solution as it will support and strengthen oppressors,” he said.
The Hurriyat (G) chairman asserted that Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Pakistan administered Kashmir, Giglit and Baltistan is a single unit and entity.
“We will pursue the movement till the issue is resolved as per aspirations of people,” he said adding the Kashmir issue is related to 15 million people.
While declaring Tashkent, Shimla, Lahore declaration and Musharraf’s four-point formula as short cuts, Geelani said all these formulas proved unrealistic, impractical and nothing is expected even in future too. “It is wastage of time and it will never prove fruitful.”
Citing the examples and procedures adopted in Croatia, East Timor, Scotland and South Sudan, he said sensible people respect right to self-determination for suppressed nations and there is no space for bullying or justification for use of military might.
Referring to use of brute force in Kashmir, Hurriyat (G) chairman said, “One day it will definitely come to an end and India can’t justify their stance for long”.
He said India claims to be a great democracy and aspires membership to UN Security Council. “However, its stand about J&K is contrary to its tall claims and its aspiration for membership to Security Council is inappropriate.”
Urging separatist leadership for their persistence with movement, Geelani said, “We need to be optimistic, show wisdom and valour. Time periods can’t be fixed for movements. Some nations achieve their goal within a short span of time while others have struggled for quite long periods”.
Referring to independence movement of India, he said it commenced in 1857 and took 90 years for India to achieve their goal. “Those, who led freedom movement in India, never resorted to short cuts and at last they achieved their destination”.
On struggle in J&K, Geelani said, “We are sure that circumstances will force India to honour the aspiration of people of Jammu and Kashmir or it will stand exposed despite its tall claims of being a democracy.”
