Opposition walks out seeking judicial probe in killings, Ruling asks? will Omar own responsibility of 2010 killings

  • “Why the Government is running away from holding the probe? Why are they shielding killers?” asked the opposition lawmakers.
  • Will Omar also own responsibility for 79, 87, 96 too like 2010 killings: PDP MLA

Day after the PDP-BJP Government defeated a Motion seeking judicial probe into civilian killings of summer 2016 uprising in Kashmir, the opposition National Conference and Congress on Wednesday staged walkout from the House over Government’s refusal to order the probe.
As soon as Question Hour began, MLAs from Opposition National Conference and Congress stood up from the seats and resorted to sloganeering.
Shouting slogans: “Bajrangi Sarkar Hai Hai, Nagpur Sarkar Ha Haii, RSS Sarkar Hai Hai, Goongi Behri Sarkar Hai Hai,” the NC and Congress MLAs tried to storm into the Well but were prevented by Marshals.
“Why the Government is running away from holding the probe? Why are they shielding killers?” asked the opposition lawmakers.
Amid uproarious scenes in the House, Congress MLA GM Saroori said the Government should constitute a judicial commission headed by a Supreme Court judge to probe the killings.
NC’s Ali Muhammad Sagar questioned the constitution of Special Investigation Teams (SITs) to probe the killings.
“We don’t have trust on police investigations. If Chief Minister is claiming that Kashmir unrest is result of pre-planned conspiracy then there is need to hold judicial probe,” he said.
Later, all lawmakers from NC and Congress including former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah staged walkout from the House.

A legislator of ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Aijaz Mir Tuesday questioned Opposition National Conference (NC) leader and former chief minister, Omar Abdullah whether he would own responsibility for the killings of Kashmiri civilians in 1979 and after 1987 and 1996 too as he had owned the responsibility of killings during the 2010 Kashmir uprising.
Stating that when Zulfikar Ali Bhutoo was sent to gallows by Gen Zia-ul-Haq’s government in Pakistan on April 3, 1979, Mir said Kashmiris had become emotional fools and NC government had overseen the attacks on Jamaat-e-Islami workers and damaged their properties.
“Who is responsible for those killings and who will own responsibility for it,” he said.
PDP MLA said in 1987, Muslim United Front (MUF) contested polls and veteran Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani, and United Jehad Council (UJC) chief Syed Salahuddin were in fray while Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik was a polling agent.
He said when these polls did not find legitimacy, youth in Kashmir decided to take up arms for which NC was responsible.
PDP legislator said on their return (from PaK), they targeted the people they thought were responsible for targeting them, resulting in more killings.
“Who is responsible for those killings and who will own responsibility for it,” he said.
PDP MLA said when NC came to power in 1996, Jamaat-e-Islami workers and other people were once again targeted resulting in the killings of more people.
“How did (Hizb-ul-Mujajhideen commander) Burhan (Muzaffar Wani) become Burhan and how did militancy start,” he said.
Mir said Omar had accepted responsibility for the killings of 128 persons in the summer of 2010.
“If he takes responsibility for the 2010 summer killings and asks Mehbooba (Mufti) ji to take responsibility for the killings of 2016, what about all these killings,” he said. “Will Omar sahab also accept responsibility for 1979, will he also accept responsibility for 1987, and will he also accept responsibility for 1996.”
