Clashes in south Kashmir as encounter rages on in Arwani, Mobile phone, Train services suspended

Intense clashes erupted in twin districts of Islamabad (Anantnag) and Kulgam in south Kashmir against the reported death of two militants in an encounter with government forces in Arwani area of Bijbehara on Thursday.
An encounter is raging in Hussanpora village of Arwani since last evening with hiding militants and forces exchanging heavy fire since early morning today.

Witnesses and reports said that clashes erupted in Bijbehara, Sanagam, Vesu, and Qazigund in Anantnag district, and Qaimoh and Khudwani areas of Kulgam district.
People from Qaimoh and Khudwani rushed towards the encounter site to help the militants escape from the area.
However, they were stopped by forces on way to the encounter site.

Meanwhile, Mobile phone service was temporarily suspended in parts of Anantnag district on Thursday after encounter between holed up militants and the government forces resumed.

Sources told Kashmir Post that the measure was taken keeping in view the encounter in Hassanpora, village of Bijbehara locality.

“Only landline phones are functioning in some parts of Anantnag district,” locals informed Kashmir Post.

Firing between holed up militants and the government forces resumed this morning after the operation was suspended last evening.

Train services have been suspended as an encounter raging in Arwani area of Bijbehara in Islamabad district.

Clashes and protests have erupted in various areas of the south of Kashmir as the death of reported killing of militants spread in the area.

Passengers travelling from Srinagar to different parts of the southern parts of valley including Banihal said that the train they were travelling in has been stopped at Awantipora railway station.

Sources in Northern railway said that the train services have been stopped due to law and order problem in Islamabad and Kulgam areas of Valley.
