Power Situation to improve from next week: PDD

Power Development Department (PDD) has said the power situation will improve from the nest week.
Chief Engineer PDD Shahnaz Goni told Kashmir Post that they would reduce the hours of daily power cuts and maintain proper power supply from next week.
She said PDD is trying its best to overcome the power crisis so that they don’t have to listen to the complaints about unscheduled power cuts from customers.
“We will also solve the problem of unscheduled power cuts soon. Our department is monitoring the issue,” she said.
Goni, however, blamed people for misusing the electricity.
“The situation has emerged due to the extra consumption of electricity by domestic consumers during winter and also by the low rainfall,” she said.
“We have the same number of consumers in summer as are in winter but consumption of electricity increases in winter due to its miss use.”
PDD Chief Engineer said the department is installing meters across the Valley which would help them restore electricity properly.
“Installing meters across Kashmir would increase the power supply which would also bring down the duration of power cuts,” she said.
She said they are facing low voltage problems in most of the areas as most of people in different areas demand power cuts for similar time schedule that is one of the reasons for overloading and low voltages.
Amidst power crisis hitting domestic consumers badly, the industrial sector also faces similar distress due to which a massive dropout is being witnessed in the industrial production output.
As per the industrial unit holders, they are also facing up to 50 percent of production loss due to the unscheduled power cuts coupled with low voltage.
President, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI), Mushtaq Ahmad Wani said that domestic as well as commercial consumers are bearing the brunt of the PDD’s schedule and “PDD is the main department in valley that does not care about the people and businesses in the valley”.
Every winter we have to face such issues and ultimately our economy is hit by PDD callous approach,” he added.
“Industrial sector has already faced problems in the last few months due to the unrest in Valley. Now we have only short period of time to work and even during these limited days no proper power supply is provided to our industrial units,” Wani said.
While responding to the complaints of industrial unit holders, Goni said, “They should not have any issue as we provide them twenty-two-hour continuous power supply.”
We have only reduced their power supply by two hours in evening due to “voltage overload” after speaking to industrialists.
