Power, Ration crisis unprecedented, Govt unmoved: NC

Rather than rectifying the crisis, CM busy with distributing scooties: Sagar

National Conference on Tuesday lashed out at the state government over the unprecedented power and ration crisis in the state and said the Chief Minister was too busy in her photo-ops and ribbon-cutting functions to take note of the misery and suffering that people are reeling under.
NC General Secretary Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar conducted an extensive tour of Downtown and interacted with public and traders’ delegations from various areas who apprised him of the scarcity of essential commodities and ration in their particular areas.
Expressing disappointment at the Government’s insensitivity towards the people especially in view of the harsh winter weather, the National Conference General Secretary said the administration had completely failed in dispensing its basic duties. “The power crisis in the Valley is unimaginable. This has now started to directly affect our elderly and ailing citizens whose health is deteriorating at an alarming pace because of the lack of electricity. Thousands of patients with severe pulmonary ailments cannot use their oxygen machines for long periods resulting in a severe deterioration in their health. Our students are unable to study in the absence of electricity. Rather than rectifying this, the Chief Minister is busy distributing scooties and cutting ribbons”, the NC General Secretary said after interacting with the people.
Sagar also lashed out at the administration for failing to stock ration depots with adequate rations and essential commodities and said this brazen level of neglect and irresponsibility was unprecedented. “Despite having increased the rates of essential commodities, the administration has failed to ensure that ration depots are stocked with a bare minimum amount of essential commodities. It seems like the government is deliberately persecuting the people – which is unfortunate”, Ali Mohammad Sagar added.
Meanwhile National Conference Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani held a meeting along with MLA Homshalibug Abdul Majeed Bhat (Larmi) and North Zone Secretary Ghulam Rasool Naaz with the Provincial Committee of Youth National Conference for Kashmir Province to deliberate on the power and ration crisis in the State. The Provincial Committee of YNC Kashmir that comprised of Provincial President Kashmir YNC Salman Ali Sagar, Vice Provincial Presidents Imran Nabi Dar, Ehsan Pardesi, Jehangir Yaqoob Wani and Provincial Secretary YNC Mudassir Shahmiri apprised the party leadership of feedback received by Youth National Conference over these important issues and also deliberated on a future course of action to hold the Government accountable.
In the meeting with the Provincial Committee of Youth National Conference, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani said the party would leave no stone unturned to hold the Government accountable in the dispensation of basic governance duties. “The power crisis in the State is alarming and has broken the back of the common man. The harsh weather is taking a toll on his health and day-to-day survival in the absence of a bare minimum amount of electricity per day. The Government seems to be unmoved while the Chief Minister and Ministers are busy hopping from one photo-opportunity to the next. The Government is completely invisible on the ground as people have been left to the mercy of God”, the NC Provincial President said in the meeting.
Provincial President Youth National Conference Salman Ali Sagar said YNC was actively reaching out to youth across the Valley to listen to their grievances and work with them in holding the Government accountable.
“We stand in solidarity with the youth across the Valley in the midst of gross neglect and insensitivity of the state government in the harsh winter and we are holding youth conventions across the Valley to better connect to the disillusioned youth and help them in meeting various challenges”, Salman said.
Meanwhile National Conference Leader and MLC Bashir Ahmed Veeri also led hundreds of party workers in a protest demonstration against the Government at Khanbal, Anantnag and said the power and ration crisis in the valley was unimaginable and shocking. Holding placards and raising slogans, the protesters marched to Khanabal Chowk.
