KU likely to defer 3rd year exams by ‘Couple of weeks’ after facing Protests

After facing resentment from students for planning 3rd year exams in December, the University of Kashmir may defer the exams by couple of weeks, sources told Kashmir Post on Monday.
The undergraduate students appearing in upcoming final year exams have opposed the KU’s decision to hold their exams in the last week of December.

Scores of final year students from different government degree colleges assembled at Press Enclave here on Saturday to protest against what they called KU’s “flawed” decision to hold exams in December.
“Our session started in mid week of May this year and later our colleges remained closed in wake of the unrest that erupted in 1st week of July. We have attended our classes for less than two months,” the students said.
Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor (VC) KU, Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi hinted that 3rd year exams may be deferred by couple of weeks. He however said the decision would be taken on basis of the feedback received from colleges.

“College Principals have stated that the class work has not resumed fully in all colleges. So we want students to attend the classes and later appear in exams,” Prof Andrabi said.
Meanwhile students demanded relaxation in their syllabus and said their exams should be held in March next year.
“And if they (KU) decide to postpone our exams to March, then our classes should be conducted in our respective colleges from coming week. We are ready to attend the classes in winters as well,” the students said.
They castigated KU for asking students to rely on e-tutorials uploaded on university website. “Students can’t rely only on the e-tutorials to qualify the exams. We have attended less number of classes in colleges,” they said.
“KU authorities have been misinformed by the college managements that students have completed 70 percent syllabus. We have not completed 30 percent syllabus till date.”
Prof Andrabi said: “KU works on the feedback received from colleges. We will give relaxation to students if it is recommended by colleges.”
The V-C said exams are conducted on basis of the Course Review Committee (CRC) report wherein the Class Representatives (CR) are taken on board before announcement of exam dates.
“We hold exams on basis of feedback given by respective colleges regarding completion of syllabus. Whatever has been taught in colleges will be asked in exams,” he said.
