congress-holds-aakrosh-rallies-against-note-banThe Congress today brought life to a standstill at several places in the Jammu region by holding Jan Aakrosh rallies to protest against demonetisation.
The rallies were organised in all 10 districts of the Jammu region.
In the winter capital, the rally was led by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ghulam Ahmed Mir. He was accompanied by other party leaders. When they refused to leave, the police took them into preventive custody at Satwari Chowk.
The police at Mishriwala resorted to cane-charging which created some problem in the area.
At Akhnoor, the rally was led by PCC senior vice-president Sham Lal Sharma and hundreds of people participated in this rally.
Earlier, Mir lashed out at the BJP government at the Centre for its failure on all fronts and vitiating the atmosphere of peace and harmony in the country due to its “wrong” and “divisive” policies.
He said the Modi-led government at the Centre had failed to fulfil a single commitment and brought miseries to the common man due to unprecedented price hike in the country.
“The sudden announcement of demonetisation was a move to divert the attention of the countrymen from the real issues. People are not being able to withdraw and use their own money,” he said.
Sharma said the demonetisation had broken the backbone of the common man particularly the farmers and labour class.
“Farmers are not able to withdraw money for fertilisers and seed which will adversely affect the production of rabi crops,” he said.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand while addressing the party workers at Khour expressed his anguish over the non-availability of Prime Minister in both Houses of Parliament.
The Congress also organised protest rallies in Samba, Udhampur, Ramban, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, Sunderbani, Nowshera, Kathua and Doda.
The party condemned the “partial” role of the Kanachak SHO for resorting to unprovoked lathicharge over peaceful procession by senior Congress leaders.
Terming it as an assault on democracy, Mir demanded appropriate action against the “partial” role of the SHO.
