Snow, Rain forecast across Kashmir region

With night temperatures increasing throughout the State due to cloud cover, the weather department Sunday forecast snow in upper reaches during next 24 hours.
“After a long dry spell of nearly three months, we are expecting rain and snow in the higher reaches of the state during the next 24 hours,” an official of the Meteorological Department said.
He said due to the night-long cloud cover, there has been overall improvement in the minimum temperatures through the state.
He said the weather would remain mainly cloudy over the next week with rains or snow at isolated places.
The sky over Kashmir was cloudy today, even as a thick layer of fog continued to engulf the Valley.
The overcast sky lead to an improvement in the minimum temperatures at most places in the Valley.
The official said night temperature in Srinagar went up from the previous night’s low of minus 2.5 degrees Celsius to settle at minus 0.9 degree Celsius.
He said the night temperature in the Leh town in Ladakh region increased over four degrees from – 7.9 degrees Celsius yesterday to register the low of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius.
The official said the minimum in Qazigund was minus 1.6 degrees Celsius, which was slightly up from minus 1.8 degrees Celsius on the previous night.
He said hill resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded the minimum of minus 3.5 degrees Celsius as compared to minus 4 degrees Celsius yesterday.
“The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg registered the low of minus 1.5 degrees Celsius against yesterday’s minus 0.6 degree Celsius,” the official said, adding the resort was the only place in Kashmir where the night temperature decreased.
Kupwara registered the minimum of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag town in south registered the low of 1.8 degrees Celsius.
