Shops open across valley as ‘Relaxation’ period starts

As the separatist leaders discussed “future course of action” in the ongoing unrest, Kashmir continued to remain shut amid restrictions with a semblance of normalcy by increased pedestrian and traffic movement on the roads on day 123 today.
A semblance of normalcy had been witnessed here and in major towns of the Valley since morning today as an increased movement of pedestrians and traffic was seen on the roads. It was followed by the opening of shops in the main market places beginning with the “relaxation period” of 15 hours from 4 pm today to enable people to make necessary purchases. The relaxation is also scheduled for tomorrow in the extended “protest calendar” up to Thursday issued jointly by the separatist leaders.
There were no restrictions in any part of the Valley in view of the improvement in the overall situation, officials said here today. However, police and CRPF men were deployed in large numbers in sensitive areas to thwart any protest demonstrations leading to clashes between the protesters and police personnel.
While more and more people have been joining the normal routine, educational institutions continued to remain closed since the trouble started in Kashmir four months ago.
