Authorities imposed restrictions in Srinagar city of Kashmir Valley on Friday morning to prevent a protest march to the UN observer’s office called by resistance leaders. District Magistrate Farooq Ahmad Lone said: “Restrictions will remain in force here to maintain law and order today (Friday).”
The resistance leaders had urged people to march to the UN Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) headquarter office in Sonawar area. Forces sealed all roads to Sonawar’s high security zone and disallowed any vehicular or pedestrian movement towards the UNMOGIP office.
The valley has remained paralyzed for the last 91 days because of the separatist called protest shutdowns and rallies issued through weekly calendars.
The authorities have responded by imposing curfew and restrictions. All educational institutions, public transport and businesses have remained closed during the ongoing unrest that started on July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Wani, was killed in a gunfight with the forces. Over 92 people died and over 15,000 were injured in the ongoing unrest.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted in north Kashmir’s Sopore town in Baramulla district on Friday soon after congregational prayers, reports said. Local sources told Kashmir Post that hundreds of people tried to march from Jamia masjid Sopore after prayers and they started raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.
However forces deployed in large numbers swung into action and used force to disperse them near main bazaar resulting in clashes.
Reports of clashes between protesters and forces have also reached from Jamia Qadeem which were going on when reports last came in.

Intense clashes erupted in Srinagar’s Chanapora area on Friday. Reports reaching here said that as soon as congregational Friday prayers ended, people came out on roads in Lone Mohalla area and raised pro-freedom slogans.
“Men in uniform fired tear gas shells and pellets to disperse off the protestors,” local sources said. Reports said that one youth was hit by a tear gas shell in his hand and he has been rushed to hospital. Clashes were going on when last reports came in.
Earlier, youths held pro-freedom protests in Barzulla area of Srinagar.

Clashes erupted in north Kashmir’s Bandipora town on Friday soon after congregational prayers when the government forces did not allow people to hold a protest.Local sources told Kashmir Post that hundreds of people assembled in the main Chowk of the town after prayers and started raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans however forces deployed in large numbers swung into action and used force to disperse them.
Protesters also pelted stones on forces ensuing clashes which were going on when reports last came in.

Intense clashes erupted in North Kashmir’s Palhallan town on Friday as men in uniform did not allow people to take out a pro-freedom rally. Reports reaching here said that a joint Friday prayers was held in Eidgah Palhallan today.
“People from Wussan, Goshbugh, Aglar, Chanderhama and other adjoining villages offered mandatory congregational Friday prayers,” a local said. He added that Friday prayers concluded around 3 PM and people took out a march raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.
“However, large numbers of police and CRPF men were deployed in the area and they started unprovoked tear gas shelling on the rally,” the resident said. “The tear gassing provoked youths to resort to stone pelting resulting in intense clashes,” he said.
Earlier in the day, the local said that police announced in the area that curfew was imposed in the area.
Clashes were going on when last reports came in.

Prayers not allowed in Jamia masjid Srinagar on straight 13th Friday. Authorities on Friday did not allow congregational prayers in the historic Jamia masjid, Srinagar for 13th consecutive Friday. Prayers were also not allowed the revered shrine of Hazrat Syed Yaqoob Sahib (RA) in Sonwar, located near the UN office.
Reports said that heavy deployment was made around Jamia Masjid Srinagar in Nowhatta and shrine of Hazrat Syed Yaqoob Sahib (RA) in Sonwar to prevent people from assembling. They added that gates of the shrine were even locked to prevent people from marching towards the UN office.
As per reports prayers were also not allowed in Jamia masjid Anantnag and Shopian in south Kashmir by enforcing restrictions and curbs.
