RITES to prepare report on metro projects

The Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) will conduct feasibility studies and prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the metro projects in Jammu and Srinagar.
“The state government has entrusted RITES with the job of preparation of the DPR and also to conduct the feasibility studies for the Mass Rapid Transport System in the capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar in J&K. RITES will initially be preparing a project report for a length of 45 km in Srinagar City and 30 km for the city of Jammu,” an Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) spokesman said today.
The spokesman said a formal letter of intent in favour of RITES issued by the ERA was handed over to RITES Group General Manager Piyush Kansal by ERA Chief Executive Officer Vinod Sharma here today.
He said a decision to this effect was taken last month in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
The spokesman said in the first phase, projects would be prepared for the routes as suggested in the City Mobility Plan (CMP) of Jammu and Srinagar cities. The tentative routes suggested in the CMP for Srinagar city are Nowgam railway station to SKIMS via Baghi Mehtab, Rambagh, Jawahar Nagar, civil secretariat, Barbarshah, Nowhatta, Hawal, Alamgari Bazaar, and Pantha Chowk to Shalteng via Lasjan, Badami Bagh, Lal Chowk, civil secretariat, Tatoo Ground and Bemina.
The routes suggested for Jammu are Amphala Chowk to Bari Brahmna via Bikram Chowk, Gandhi Nagar, Satwari, and Bakshi Nagar to Purmandal via BC Road, Baghi Bahu and Trikuta Nagar.
