Police official’s family tenders public apology for ‘atrocities’ committed by sonIn a first such case, a family of a senior police official posted in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district Friday tendered a public apology for the ‘wrong doings’ of their son.
“I apologise on behalf of my son and our family,” the police official’s father Bashir Ahmad said during Friday congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid Bijbehara today.
The official is posted as the Station House Officer (SHO) in main town Kulgam.
There have been allegations against the police official for allegedly committing atrocities in Kulgam town. It was alleged and speculated that the police official has been involved in at least one killing and numerous other incidents of ‘public harassment’.
A family source disclosed that after the allegations, a letter was delivered to them by some unidentified youth asking the family to tender a public apology and desist their son from inflicting further “atrocities” at his place of posting.
The worried family today took the initiative and tendered a public apology.
“I have received this letter regarding the atrocities committed by my son,” senior Bodha, who also happens to be a retired Deputy SP, told the gathering in the mosque.
He said he took immense pains to get in touch with his son, who denied all allegations leveled against him.
The senior Bodha said if his son has unknowingly been involved in some acts in the line of duty that were seen as atrocious by people, “I apologise to all of you on his behalf and on behalf of our family”.
