‘Traffic regulation would be improved from today’

‘Traffic regulation would be improved from today’Inspector General of Police (Traffic) Shafqat Watali on Sunday said that there would be improvement in traffic regulation in the summer capital from May 2.

Watali was interacting with representatives of civil society, traders and transporters here. He was flanked by SSP Traffic (City) Maqsood-ul-Zaman.
“We welcome your valuable suggestions and ensure that these would be incorporated to make traffic regulation better. You will experience considerable improvement in traffic regulation from May 2,” he said during the interaction.
The IGP maintained that the Traffic diversion plan has “no loopholes.’ “But there is space for improvement. There is lack of monitoring and implementation and we will take corrective measures,” he said.
“Originally, we had two peaks hours during morning and evening. However, due to ongoing work on Jehanagir Chowk-Rambagh fly over, every hour has turned into peak hour,” he said.
He said that the priority of traffic police would be that no traffic jam takes place. “Our priority will be to keep the wheels moving on roads and ensure there is no blockade. We will also reward the cops on field for their performance. Similarly, we would punish those who fail to perform duty,” he said.
He also appealed general public to take care of rights of others while driving on the roads. “This way the roads would be safe and movement of traffic would be smooth,” he said.
He also appealed public to inform Traffic police helpline numbers in case they feel traffic regulation at any place is not good.
“People can contact me on 9419156606. I ensure that the grievance or any sort of nuisance would be dealt with immediately under law,” the IGP added.
“Today, it was beginning of interactive session with all stakeholders. We will continue these meetings. We will also hold these meeting with the stakeholders of various areas to ensure we take every body into confidence and make traffic regulation smooth and people-friendly,” he said.
He informed that Traffic police has already identified 28 locations in city as roadside parking points. “Now, officially these locations have to be notified by the SMC as roadside parking points,” he said.
Watali on Saturday had toured various roads in a private car to assess the traffic situation of traffic in the city.
“The IGP did not inform traffic cops that he was touring the roads. It was done to ensure that he assesses ground situation,” sources said.
