JMCC protests outside CM residence against Police inaction against Lal Singh’s 1947 remark

Agitated over the failure of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) to initiate action against the Forest Minister, Choudhary Lal Singh, for his alleged derogatory remarks against minority community, Jammu Muslim Coordination Committee (JMCC), today staged a demonstration outside the residence of Chief Minister and Divisional Commissioner’s office.
The protesters, mostly Gujjars, were demanding registration of FIR against the BJP leader, who allegedly humiliated the Muslim Community by passing derogatory remarks.
Pertinently, Lal Singh, had on May 21 targeted a group of Muslim farmers in Jammu, reminding them of 1947 massacre in the region, when they had gone to meet the minister for discussing various problems confronting them.
Later, the group of farmers lodged a written complaint with Police Station Gandhi Nagar, seeking registration of FIR against the minister but the police has not initiated any action against the BJP leader reportedly.
Irked over the inaction of Police to register an FIR against the Saffron party leader, the JMCC leaders including Choudhary Nazakat Khatana, Yasmeen Choudhary, Choudhary Akhtar along with other prominent Muslim leaders today assembled outside the office of Divisional Commissioner and Chief Minister’s residence and shouted slogans against the inaction of the police.
“The inaction on the part of the police is highly condemnable”, said Yasmeen Choudhary.
Meanwhile, Choudhay Nazakat Khatana said, “The state which is infested with militancy for a longer period of time needs an atmosphere of communal harmony and brotherhood but the derogatory remarks of Singh are against the century old secular ethics of the state”.
At Divisional Commissioner’s office, the JMCC presented a memorandum of their demands and also a demonstration outside CM residence.
Later, they tried to march towards Shaheedi Chowk Jammu but police foiled their attempt.
Prominent among those who were present in protest included, Shoukat Gujjar, President, JK Gujjar Federation, Mohammad Rafeeq, President, Muslim Welfare Committee Samba, Choudhary Akhtar, President, Gujjar Islahi Committee Jammu, Nazakat Khatana, President, Gujjar Desh Youth Federation, Kash Choudhry, Moyhd Rafeeq, Haji Ikhlak, Shoukat Mir, Imran Khan Liyaqat Choudhary Wali Mohd, Aziz Choudhary, Sadam Hussain, Mohammad Aslam, Mushtaq Ahmed, Haji Bashir, Abdul Hussain Raju and others.
