Athar Aamir from Kashmir bagged 2nd position in UPSC ExamsAthar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan of Jammu and Kashmir has secured second place in the 2015 IAS examination, results of which were announced today.

A total of 1,078 candidates cleared the UPSC exam — 499 from the general category, 314 from the other backward classes, 176 from the scheduled castes and 89 from the scheduled tribes.

Delhi-based Tina Dabi topped the test, followed by Jammu and Kashmir’s Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan and Delhi’s Jasmeet Singh Sandhu, reported Hindustan Times.

23-year-old Khan hails from Devipora village in Mattan area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

He is the youngest boy from Kashmir to crack the prestigious examination.

This is the second time that Khan has secured a place in the list.

In 2015, he was one of the seven Kashmiris selected in the service.

Khan did his schooling from Iqbal Memorial Institute, Islamabad up to Matric and twelfth from Tyndale Biscoe, Srinagar in 2009.

In his first attempt in 2014, Mr Khan had got into the railways and is undergoing training at the Railways Institute of Transport Management in Lucknow.

Thousands of students appear each year for the prestigious civil services examination, through which officers for the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service and Indian Police Service, among others, are picked.

This time, 1,078 candidates were recommended for the appointment. Of these, 499 belong to the general category, 314 are from Other Backward Castes, 176 are Scheduled Castes and 89 are from Scheduled Tribes category.
