NIT students return to classes after 3 days

NIT students return to classes after 3 daysThree days after the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar was shut following demonstrations over the outcome of India-West Indies T20 Cricket World Cup match, normal class work resumed at the institution today.
The officials said most of the students attended the classes and situation was peaceful.
“Normal class work has started. Everything is fine. Most of the students attended their classes. A majority of the final year students were present and students who put up in hostels also attended the classes,” said NIT registrar FA Mir.
Mir said the security was still present on the campus as a preventive measure, but things had already returned to normal.
A day ago, more than thousand students had appeared for the All India Engineering Entrance Examination at the institute amid tight security arrangements.
The authorities at the NIT Srinagar had ordered an indefinite closure of the campus on Friday following scuffle between two groups of students after the India-West Indies semifinal at Mumbai. The order was later revoked by the authorities.
A committee has also been set up to probe the incident. It is scheduled to submit its report on April 7.
The incident had led to boycott of classes by non-local students, who gathered in the campus on Friday morning and demanded action against their local counterparts.
The incident aggravated as a scuffle broke out between non-local and local students of the institute as the two groups staged protest against each other.
After some non-local students expressed apprehensions about their security, the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said he was in touch with the state administration regarding the security of the students.
