No alternative to strike calls as yet: Geelani

No alternative to strike calls as yet - GeelaniHurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani has said that despite many suggestions, no concrete and solid alternative of strike calls has been put forward from any quarter till date in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Calling or observing a one-day shutdown after each innocent killing although does not meet the demands of the situation but there is no other option left by the government. After every such incident, the government imposes curfew and puts forces on the roads to block the people’s protest,” Geelani said in a statement today, adding that “Many voices were heard with regard to finding alternatives of the strike calls but so far no concrete or practicable idea has come to fore from any quarter.”
He also hailed the debates and discussions on issues relating to the separatist movement in Jammu and Kashmir.
“It is a healthy and encouraging sign that people, especially youth, are evincing keen interest in the issues concerning their cause,” Geelani said.
“The discussions in newspapers and on social media regarding freedom struggle of Kashmir are a healthy sign and it indicates that our younger generation is showing keen interest in their collective issues. But where the political struggle has practically been banned, how is it possible for anybody to perform according to expectations,” Geelani further said.
“A responsible leadership has to take every aspect and outcome into consideration while taking any decision in this kind of situation. We consider this struggle as worship and the decisions are taken after thorough discussion and deliberations. However, whenever any solid and practicable alternative comes to fore from any quarter with regard to the course of action, we will welcome that,” Geelani said, adding that “I personally feel a deep pain in my heart for the killing of two innocent students in Pulwama and I wonder that for how long will our nation bear this kind of atrocities.”
Meanwhile, terming the killing of two innocent students by the forces in Kakpora as most painful incident, Geelani said, “The situation in the state is becoming intolerable day by day and the value of human lives in this region has been reduced to ashes.”
