Youth held over polio vaccine rumours in Kashmir, cases registered against sixA day after rumors about polio vaccination triggered panic across the Valley, police on Monday registered six cases in different police stations of the valley against the rumour mongers and arrested a youth in Pampore for posting false news on his Facebook page.
Talking to us IGP Kashmir SJM Gilani said they have registered six cases in various districts of the Valley against the rumor mongers.
“We have registered 6 cases in different police stations regarding rumors and investigation is going on,” he said.
Gilani said several people have been questioned by the police.
“We called some people for questioning. Further action will be taken after further investigation,” he said.
Panic gripped Valley yesterday after rumours spread about polio vaccination causing death of children.  Chaotic scenes were witnessed at the hospitals in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley as anxious parents brought their children for check-ups after the vaccination dose.
Police officials from south Kashmir claimed to have arrested one person Parvaiz Ahmad Sheikh of Chattlam, Pampore for posting fake news about death of children due to pulse polio immunization vaccine.
Sub Inspector Waseem Gul, who is incharge of police station Pampore, told that the accused (Parvaiz) is running a Facebook page with the name ‘MY NAME is Parvaiz and I LIVE in Lalpora Pampore’ through which he updated the rumor about children deaths due to pulse polio vaccine.
“This page was first to update the fake news about pulse polio deaths. We have detained its admin for questioning and will take further action in coming days,” he said.
Meanwhile, Baramulla police have also registered case against rumor mongers and some people have also been called for questioning.
An FIR No 11/2016 under section 503,153RPC was registered in Police Station Baramulla against rumor mongers.
