Kashmir valley witnesses Snow & Rain, Tangmarg-Gulmarg road closed

Higher reaches of Kashmir Thursday experienced fresh snowfall while rains lashed the plains even as minimum temperatures in most parts of the Valley stayed slightly above the freezing point.

There was possibility of more rains in the plains and snowfall in the higher reaches of the Valley over the next two days.

The snowfall led to closure of Mughal Road an alternate road-link connecting Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, officials of the Traffic Department said.

However, Srinagar-Jammu highway was open for traffic, they said.

The road connecting Tangmarg with ski resort of Gulmarg was closed for vehicular traffic on Thursday following fresh snowfall in the area, said an official.

He said the road was closed at Baba Reshi crossing due to accumulation of snow.

However, he said, efforts were on to clear the snow from the road.

Tourists were delighted to witness the fresh snowfall at Tangmarg and were seen throwing snowflakes at one another.
