Militancy in J&K not for packages : Omar Abdullah

Says people of the Valley want political resolution of Kashmir issue

Militancy in J&K not for packages - Omar AbdullaFormer Chief Minister and working president of the National Conference Omar Abdullah today said that the youth of Kashmir did not pick up guns to seek economic packages.
“Twentyfive years of militancy were not for seeking economic packages. Kashmiri people protest and come onto the streets to seek a political resolution of the Kashmir issue,” Omar said while addressing a public rally in the Dialgam area of Anantnag district in south Kashmir.
Omar said he told the same thing to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh back in 2013 when Singh had announced an economic package for the state on his visit to the Valley.
“Mufti tried to repeat that and tell Modi about the political aspirations of people. Sadly, Mufti got a rebuff from Prime Minister Modi,” said Omar. The former Chief Minister was referring to the PM’s remark during his recent public address in Srinagar: “I don’t need any advice on Kashmir.”
He condemned in strong words the fact that the Prime Minister skipped any mention of the resolution of the Kashmir issue during his speech.
The former Chief Minister had taken to Twitter soon after Modi’s Srinagar speech and expressed his displeasure over the issue.
Later talking to media persons, Omar condemned the killing of a 22-year-old boy in Srinagar on November 7 allegedly by CRPF personnel.
