RSS timely intervention facilitates BJP’s victory in Leh district

Sangh’s affiliates carried out door-to-door campaigning for saffron party

RSS timely intervention facilitates BJP’s victory in Leh districtThe Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) once again came to the rescue of the BJP as it helped the saffron party register its maiden victory in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, results for which were announced today.

The RSS cadre in Leh worked as foot soldiers for the BJP in the last stages of electioneering as the saffron party was finding it difficult to coordinate work at ground level to counter the Congress, which has a strong base in the mountainous region.

Though the RSS cadre did not participate in the BJP campaign actively, its affiliate organisations carried out door-to-door visits to script a new chapter in the history of the LAHDC elections.

Prant pracharak Ramesh Pappa, who is the RSS organisational head of J&K, had visited Leh to ensure better coordination between all the Sangh affiliates and the BJP.

“It is rare that a prant prachark visits the area where campaign is in full swing,” a source said. “The RSS leader stayed in Leh for four days in the second week of October. During his stay, he convened meetings of grass-roots level workers of all affiliate organisations to give boost to BJP’s campaign.” The source said.

Sources said like the Lok Sabha elections, RSS volunteers were assigned the job to establish contact with each voter and they were given responsibility to ensure that pro-BJP electorate cast their votes at any cost.

The BJP had also deputed its general secretary Narinder Singh to Leh at the eleventh hour. Singh is a hardcore RSS man and is known for his organisational skills.

Over half a dozen organisations affiliated with the RSS are active in Leh and other areas of the Ladakh region. These organisations have strong network at grass-roots, which was used to ensure BJP victory in the Council poll.

The BJP’s prestige was at stake in the Leh Council elections as it was for the first time after the government formation that the party was facing an electoral battle in Jammu and Kashmir.
