Forest food festival attracts youth

The Forest Food Festival on the banks of the Jhelum attracted a lot of youngsters who showed a keen interest to know more about local herbs that were served to visitors. While youngsters were served snacks, cookies and beverages during the day-long festival at the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Rajbagh, elderly people were keen to know as to where they could get these herbs.

A group of youngsters from city tasted a cake made up of local herb haend (taraxacum officinale) at a stall installed by the Department of Home Sciences, Government Girls School, Kothibagh, at Hotel Management Institute in Rajbagh. There were some amazing reactions. “It is yummy,” said Fayaz Ahmed, a resident of Sanat Nagar. “I had never imagined that a cake from a local herb would be so tasty.

”The festival was organised by the Directorate of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing in collaboration with Institute of Hotel Management, Rajbagh, and supported by civil society. Minister of State Abdul Majeed Padder was the chief guest on the occasion. Rifat Qadri, a faculty member of the Kothibagh girls school, said they had prepared various herb varieties.
