Social group to launch awareness campaign for Jammu’s interests

Expressing its grave concern over the failure of political groups to protect interests of the people, Mandli Matrayn Dee today announced its decision to launch an aggressive awareness campaign to educate the people of Jammu region about their rights.

Mandli Matrayn Dee is a social group comprising retired and serving officers, social activists, artists and advocates. Activities of this group were earlier confined to cultural and literary events. The executive committee of the group today decided to expand activities to make masses aware.

Addressing the executive committee, participants regretted that political leaders of Jammu has miserably failed to protect the wishes and aspirations of the people.

They further said people of this region had voted overwhelmingly in support of the party with the hope that their aspirations would be addressed, but all their hopes had been dashed within six months.

Speakers made special mention of the failure of Jammu leaders to revoke the controversial order issued by the state government to impose an additional service tax of 12.5 per cent on the pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi by helicopter.

They termed it as a deep-rooted conspiracy to hit the economy of Jammu region. They said the pilgrimage was the backbone of Jammu region’s economy and forces were working overtime to create hurdles for pilgrims visiting the shrine.

The speakers highlighted the deteriorating power scenario in Jammu and acute scarcity of potable water in most parts of the region. They regretted that the incumbent leadership had failed on all fronts.
