Setting up NIA base against JK’s special status: Hurriyat (G)

Hurriyat Conference (G) today termed the setting up of camp office in Jammu and Kashmir by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and its plan to establish permanent base here as a clear of violation of J&K’s special status and constitution.

Setting up NIA base against JK’s special status - Hurriyat (G)“This action does not have any legal and moral justification,” the Hurriyat spokesman, in a statement today, said, adding that “If permission is granted for the permanent office of NIA in the state, it will be resisted tooth and nail and we will launch a public agitation against any such move.”

“Jammu and Kashmir is internationally acknowledged disputed territory and it does not fall in the direct ambit of any Indian central agency. It has its own constitution other than Indian and that constitution too does not allow setting up of NIA or any other agency’s office despite presence of state police and other investigation agencies here. The NIA will register cases against the citizens of Jammu & Kashmir in any state of India,” the spokesman said.

The spokesman lashed out at the state government for not stopping the direct intervention of NIA in the state affairs and for co-operating in their ‘illegal’ activities here. “This is criminal attitude of the state administration and it amounts to the violation of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC),” he added.

Hurriyat also expressed its deep concern and anguish over the reports that some officers of the NIA have made their activities as ‘source of extortion’.

“According to the information received in this regard, the NIA personnel locate phone numbers of financially well off people, harass them on baseless charges and threaten to frame hawala charges against them. The officers then receive huge bucks from the people who get terrified by their threats,” the spokesman said.
