Kashmiri students in Punjab allege fraud; demand JK govt’s intervention

The students from Kashmir who had sought admission in various colleges affiliated with Punjab Technical University (PTU) are on a protest against the move by the Punjab Government for bringing these colleges under the domain of a “non-recognized” university.

Technical University (PTU) were “shocked” to know that the Punjab government has ordered to bring these colleges under the “newly established and non-recognized” Maharaja Ranjit Singh State University (MRSSU).
“We had sought the admission here as these colleges were affiliated with PTU, however we have came to know that our colleges are being brought under the domain of MRSSU, the move shall endanger the career of hundreds of students as our degrees shall be deemed as invalid in Jammu and Kashmir,” a Kashmiri student studying B Tech at Continental Group of Institute college told over phone.
He said, they are on a pro¬test against the move and demandimmediate inter¬vention of the J&K and Punjab governments in this regard.
The students said that they have written a letter to Education Minister Naeem Akhter and Minis¬ter for Science and Technol¬ogy Sajad lone in this re¬gard.Speaking to us, Minister for Science and Technology Sajad Gani Lone feigned ignorance about any such issue.“I have no knowledge about any such an issue, neither do I have received any letter from students,” he said, adding that he will look and enquire into the matter.
