Around 60% men, 58% women exposed to trauma in Kashmir: Expert

In Kashmir, 59.51 per cent men and 57.39 per cent women were exposed to trauma and consequently 14.55 per cent males and 16.01 per cent females suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorders, revealed noted psychiatrist, clinician and researcher Dr Mushtaq Marghoob.

Around 60 percent men, 58 percent women exposed to trauma in Kashmir - ExpertHe was talking to media persons on the sidelines of a workshop aimed at sensitizing public about promotion of mental health. The event was organised by the SAWAB Centre of Voluntary Medicare in Gandarbal, today. A large number of Imams from across the district today actively participated in the workshop, which was aimed at engaging them in a low cost mental health Initiative for promotion of mental health in the district.

Dr Margoob said, “This programme is being run with the help of Douglas Mental Health University Institute, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and it is on the pattern of WHO’s Mental Health Gap Action Programme.

“The mental health services in India are a neglected area which needs immediate attention,” he added. He said that according to his own study in Kashmir 59.51 per cent males and 57.39 per cent females were exposed to trauma and consequently 14.55 per cent males and 16.01 per cent females suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorders.
