Police foil recruitment plan of ultras

The J&K Police have foiled a major plan of militants of recruiting at least 14 youths by rescuing them in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The police said all 14 youths between the age group of 16 and 30 years were handed over to their parents after counselling.

Pulwama SSP Tajinder Singh said none of the parents of the youths was aware of their activities. “These youths were planning to snatch arms and later join militancy,” the SP said.

“Few among them were also planning to attack policemen with chilli powder and later snatch rifles,” he added. A police spokesman in Srinagar said they got information that concerted attempts were being made to lure and recruit youths into militancy.

This year, over 40 youths, mostly from south Kashmir, have joined militancy.
