Retailers flout Govt orders, sell mutton at Rs 400kgThe consumers from many areas complained that retailers sell mutton at Rs 400 per kilogram.
“When I asked the retailer why he was selling mutton at Rs 40 costlier that government approved rates, he scoffed and said government doesn’t know the actual rates of the mutton,” said a consumer Javaid Ahmad from Rainawari.
The consumers from other areas also complained of overcharging from the mutton retailers.
Notably, Government had revised the meat rates and fixed it at Rs 360 per kilogram without Ugri. The rates were revised after taking due consultations and suggestions from Kothdars and civil society members.
However, the retailers are openly flouting the rules and government orders by overcharging the consumers.
One of the retailer said that they get mutton at Rs 380 per kilogram.
“It is not possible for us to sell mutton at Rs 360. They take decisions arbitrarily. We are bound to sell at Rs 400 per kilogram,” said the retailers wishing not to be named.
Director Consumes Affairs and Public Distribution said it is very serious issue needs to be tackled.
“Whosoever is found overcharging will be punished. We will cancel the licenses of the retailers who will overcharge consumers,” said Director CAPD.
