Panic in Qazigund over reports of presence of runaway terrorists

A day after the Udhampur attack, panic gripped Qazigund area in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district when a truck driver informed the police about presence of two men, one of them armed, in the vicinity.

Panic in Qazigund over reports of presence of runaway terroristsThe duo was said to have boarded a truck from Verinag to Lower Munda on the National Highway, the arterial road linking the Valley with rest of India.

The truck driver informed a police post near Qazigund this afternoon that the two got dropped in a forested area near lower Munda, a place close to Jawahar tunnel on the highway, and that one of them was armed.

Immediately, teams of Army and CRPF were requested to join the search operations and the two “suspected terrorists” were caught from the jungle and handed over to the local police for questioning.

They were later identified as Mohammed Sadiq, a resident of Nagrota, and Mohammed Qayyum Poswal of Udhampur. Both the areas are in Jammu region and the two were at present staying in a locality at Anantnag in south Kashmir.

Though there was no recovery of any weapons from the duo, they are being questioned and their antecedents verified, sources in the security establishment said.

Mohammed Naved Yakub, the lone terrorist arrested in yesterday’s Udhampur terror strike, had told investigators that he was a part of a group of four people that had come to India. The group had split into two of two each at Kulgam. Naved’s accomplice Noman was killed in retaliatory action yesterday and two others are yet to be traced.
