Protesters playing politics, 20 crore not final package: Dorjey
Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils Leh along with District Congress Committee (DCC) members today staged a protest demonstration against State government for not allocating “sufficient funds” for flood affected areas in Leh.
Councillors said the allocation of Rs 20 crore as relief for flood affected areas in Leh is too meagre.They said, the amount released by State government for the relief and rehabilitation of flood affected people in Leh is “too little and too late”.
Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) LAHDC Leh Rigzin Spalber today in the written statement said, “State government bluntly discriminated against the district as no ex-gratia has been announced for human losses and for those who have lost their houses.”
In the statement LAHDC castigated Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and Dy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh for not visiting the district even after a span of one month of flood devastation.
The Council demanded adequate relief from the government so that “relief and rehabilitation work is taken up in the region”.
Pertinent to mention here, the government has announced sum of Rs 20 crore for Leh and 10 crore for Kargil district for taking up the relief, and rehabilitation work in flood hit areas.
Talking on phone, Minister for Cooperatives Tsering Dorjey Larook said, “It’s not the final announcement and the sum or Rs 20 crore is allocated by the State government through SDRF, but the interim amount and the actual package will be released by government of India”.
“Whatever Congress is doing in Leh is all political,” minister said, adding, “CM sahib was ready to visit Leh but his health didn’t permit him.”
Dorjey also said the relief for permanent restoration of flood affected areas from government of India is yet to be announced.
