J&K is not any legal part of Indian like the states of Bihar, UP or Maharashtra and its status is different from them : Gilani

While out rightly rejecting the plans of the Indian government of permanently settling the retired Indian army personals or their children in Jammu & Kashmir, Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani said that Jammu Kashmir is an internationally accepted disputed territory and the decision regarding its future is still pending so the settling or allotting of land to any army personnel or any citizen of India on this disputed land is the clear violation of the international rules and it has no constitutional or moral justification.

J&K is not any legal part of Indian like the states of Bihar, UP or Maharashtra and its status is different from them - GilaniJammu & Kashmir is not any legal part of Indian like the states of Bihar, UP or Maharashtra and its status is totally different from them. He said that issuing citizenship of this state to any Indian national is totally against the constitution of this state and the Indian government doesn’t have powers to amend the state constitution.

Geelani Sahab cautioned that allotting of any land to the retired army personals of India in Jammu & Kashmir will be a grave mistake on the part of government which will have serious consequences and the pro-freedom people will come on roads to protest against this move.

In a statement issued to the press, Hurriyat Chairman said that the Hurriyat conference had called an important meeting of its advisory council (Majlish Shoora) on 22 July on this serious and vital issue which discussed all the aspects of this issue and in which the government was cautioned that this plan will not be allowed to succeed here in any way and if any land is allotted to any Indian army personnel in Jammu & Kashmir, we will launch a public movement against that.

While terming the attitude of the Mufti government on this sensitive issue as ambiguous and suspicious, the pro-freedom leader said that the Indian defense minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar had said that he had sent directions to the state government in Srinagar on 16 July for taking appropriate action in the allotment of the state land to the former Indian army personals but Mufti Sayeed government is still to say anything about that order and nor has he refuted or supported it.

Geelani Sahab while addressing the Mufti Muhammad Sayeed said that that he should clear the stand of the state government on this sensitive issue before the general public that are they going to accept this unconstitutional order of the Indian defense minister or will they this time protect the state constitution. He further said that permanent settlement of former Indian army personals on this land is an attempt to harm the special status and disputed nature of Jammu & Kashmir and the people of the state will not allow any such plan to succeed.

Besides the entire pro-freedom leadership, Hurriyat conference has decided to consult law experts and people related to every walk of life and have agreed to mobilize public consensus in this regard. Hurriyat has also appealed the world bodies to play their role in stopping India from fiddling with the disputed nature of Jammu & Kashmir.
