Two Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district have resigned from their services following verification of their degree certificates initiated by the government.

2 ReT teachers resign in Kupwara following Scrutiny of degree certificatesOfficials in the department said the resignation of duo was accepted by the higher authorities.

They said the teachers had allegedly obtained their degrees from outside state and had apprehensions of departmental action for the act.

The teachers include one, who was engaged as ReT on 1 March, 2011and posted in Government Upper Primary School (UPS) Khanabal, while another was posted at Upper Primary School Budi Nambhal Wandigi Kralpora and was engaged as ReT on 10 April, 2013.

“The resignation of both the teachers has been accepted by the department. They tendered their resignation soon after the department started verification process of the degrees obtained by ReT teachers,” said Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Showkat Ahmad Beigh.

J&K’s Education Department on August 9 ordered verification of degrees possessed by Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers within seven days while asserting that it would go ahead with the screening test for them as per the High Court directions.

Meanwhile the officials in the department said the teachers had not produced their documents for verification.

The school Education Department has formed special inquiry teams comprising of Principals of Government Higher Secondary Schools (GHSS) and Headmasters besides Chief Education Officers of the concerned district to scrutinize the qualification certificates of ReT teachers.

“We have not included Zonal Education Officers in these teams as the higher ups suspected their involvement in entertaining fake certificates in the service records of ReT teachers,” senior officials in the department said.

The department has directed the concerned Chief Education Officers (CEOs) to submit the detailed information about the engagement of Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers who have been engaged in the department since the inception of the scheme in JK state.

The authorities have devised a proforma for data collection of degrees and other certificates of the ReT teachers in the department.
